Message from the Conference Chairman Our theme for Petrotech 2012, Creating Value: Technology, Investment & People provides a rich tapestry for the conference. Imagine for a moment the many pictures it encompasses.
“Creating Value” can be viewed as both an active process of how we do things and as a business result necessary for continued success. Value can be much more than the revenue we generate and relates to usefulness. For example the chair that you are sitting in is far more valuable at the moment than the metal and polymers from which it is constructed, a process took place to rearrange the raw materials so that the product has qualities which we are willing to pay for (exchange of value).
As an industry we create enormous value by converting crude oil into a variety of products that are more useful to a large number of people. Refined products fuel our global travel / transportation and petrochemicals clothe the world. Refined products pave our highways and petrochemicals make up a large part of today’s automobile. The value we create is both useful to many and a source of revenue.
We develop new and improve existing technologies that allow us to efficiently capture the value form each molecule that we process. Value creating technology may be found in all segments of our businesses including integration, process efficiency, safety, and environmental. Sharing our work through the conference technical programme enhances the ability to capture as much value as possible.
Return on capital (revenue) is one criterion that investors use to measure the value of their investments. With the facilities necessary for the refining and petrochemical business requiring staggering amounts of long-term capital investment, it is imperative that we understand the global economy to tap into those resources and create additional value.
We create value through developing our people and providing opportunities for the next generations to stand on our shoulders and reach every closer to the stars. Creating this value includes knowledge creation, enhancing employee and plant safety, active participation of all employees, and ensuring the environment is suitable for our grandchildren’s play.
The rich tapestry of Petrotech 2012 programme will create value for each participant. Join us from May 22 - 23, 2102 in Bahrain for Creating Value: Technology, Investment & People.
