Call for Abstracts

Under the theme of: “Refining/Petrochemical Integration: The Way for Future Growth”, the Middle East Petrotech 2008 technical conference will address a myriad of topics that are relevant to the current global energy climate including:

Topic 1- Integration in Design

Synergies between the refining and petrochemical sector have always been seen as advantageous from a capital investment perspective, either through initial grassroots design or through expansion related projects. Main interests in the topic “Integration in Design” focus on what has recently been accomplished and what is to be considered in a design that incorporates both the refining and the petrochemical sectors.

Topic 2 - Energy Efficiency

Energy conservation continues to be an important issue in the refining and petrochemical industries. Economic pressures and rising fuel costs encourage more efficient use of energy within these industries to reduce operating costs and correspondingly decrease the global warming impact. Presentations should focus on new developments related to energy conservation in refineries and petrochemical plants. Topics of interest include new equipment and processes, novel catalysts, cogeneration, integration of refineries and petrochemical plants, integration of refineries and power plants, and design techniques and methodologies that identify energy saving opportunities.

Topic 3 - Reliability Improvements

Plant reliability is now synonymous with optimised Asset Performance Management. Over the years, reliability has progressed from a single piece of equipment to an entire system and as such is much more focused on the availability of plants to produce the desired products. Therefore, to plan a clear path to reliability improvements is key to its success. Presentations on this topic will bring forward not only the latest techniques employed in the industry but the tried and trusted reliability improvement initiatives and best practices which are already implemented with proven results and have resulted in economically improved overall plant reliability.

Topic 4 - Process Technologies

The refining and petrochemical industries are seeing many improvements in process technologies associated with the recent growth opportunities in business and the added competition created by the impact of globalisation. New technologies, commercially proven or emerging, for both the refining and petrochemical industries are to be presented.

Topic 5 - Health, Safety & Environment

The importance of strong HSE performance and the associated programmes is vital to the industry’s sustainability. New approaches are always being developed to re-energise the commitment right down to the employee level. New successful approaches are to be presented to share the benefits of further deployment within similar industries.
